CyboSoft Wins DOE SBIR Phase II Grant for Advanced Boiler Control

July 24, 2007 – CyboSoft (Rancho Cordova, California) today announced that it was rewarded an SBIR Phase II grant by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the research and development of Intelligent Control of Advanced Power Generation Systems Using Model-Free Adaptive Control Technology. The R&D work can result in an intelligent control system for controlling boilers in future energy plants that can deliver maximum-energy-efficiency, near-zero-emissions, fuel-flexibility, and multi-products. This could represent a major breakthrough for the combustion industry.

CyboSoft CEO Dr. George Cheng said, “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to continue the project based on the work accomplished in Phase I. Being selected by DOE to receive this award is a tremendous honor.”

The SBIR and STTR grants are designed to support scientific excellence and technological innovation through the investment of federal research funds in critical American priorities to build a strong national economy. In 2007, The Department of Energy (DOE) evaluated 266 Phase II grant applications from the companies that won the Phase I grant in 2006. Among them, 113 applications were selected to receive SBIR Phase II grants and 15 applications were selected to receive STTR Phase II grants.

CyboSoft’s Model-Free Adaptive (MFA) control technology has made a big impact in many industries. With today’s energy and environmental crisis, CyboSoft has the mission to make its best effort to assist the industry to overcome the technical difficulties for building next generation power and energy plants to burn dirty fuel cleanly and produce highly-efficient energy.

Regarding product commercialization, one of the main objectives of DOE SBIR Phase II grants, Dr. Cheng continued, “CyboSoft has the experience and expertise to solve tough industry-wide control problems, and develop successful commercial products. We believe the key is to team up with good partners that already have a large market share. We have secured good partners for both Supercritical boiler and Circulating Fluidized-Bed (CFB) boiler markets. All we have to do is to focus on achieving Phase II objectives and deliver what our partners and their customers want. Then, the success of the MFA advanced boiler control products is almost assured.”

About CyboSoft

CyboSoft, General Cybernation Group, Inc., is the leader in control technology serving the worldwide process control, building control, and equipment control markets. CyboSoft’s patented Model-Free Adaptive (MFA) control technology for automatically controlling physical processes is a major breakthrough. No other comparable technology possesses all the attributes of MFA.

CyboSoft's mission is to embed the appropriate MFA controllers in instruments, equipment, tools, software platforms, or automation systems of brand-name suppliers in targeted industries, application areas, or market segments. MFA controllers are replacing PID controllers on a very large scale and are also used for controlling those loops that are now in manual control. This revolutionary technology allows users to achieve significant advantages to better compete in this global economy.
