CyboSoft Announces New Partner Strategy
to Make MFA Available on Industry-leading Platforms
October 21, 2003 - CyboSoft today announced
its strategy to embed Model-Free Adaptive (MFA) controllers
in the instruments, manufacturing equipment, and automation
systems of brand-name suppliers in targeted industries. To
date, CyboSoft's technology has only been available from CyboSoft
directly as a PC-based application or embedded in a CyboSoft
instrument.
MFA has long been considered an industry breakthrough because
it provides adaptive, robust control for both simple and complex
systems without the need for process models. In announcing
this strategic change, Chairman and CTO Dr. George Cheng said,
"Customers will benefit because we will team with their
preferred providers of measurement and control solutions to
make our unique technology available on the platforms in which
they've already invested."
Early Successes
Coincidentally, CyboSoft and Bristol Babcock are jointly announcing
the successful integration of their MFA technology in Bristol's
ControlWave hybrid controller. ControlWave combines the best
technologies provided by PLC, RTU and DCS architectures into
a Hybrid system well suited to most all measurement and control
applications. Additionally, Bristol has plans to make the
MFA technology available to customers of their popular Network
3000 product line.
CyboSoft is also announcing the successful integration of
CyboSoft's MFA control technology in National Instruments
(NI) LabVIEW environment. MFA controllers can tightly control
key variables in a changing test environment so that lab efficiency
can be greatly improved. NI's FieldPoint distributed I/O and
PXI instruments are the target platforms.
The Technology
No other comparable technology possesses all the attributes
of the "dream controller": controls a wide variety
of processes (simple and complex), is adaptive, easy to install,
use and maintain. Based on the core MFA technology, CyboSoft
has developed general-purpose controllers that can be engineered
to solve application-specific control problems. MFA controllers
do not require process models that are difficult to develop
and maintain. Once installed, no controller tuning is required.
In most cases, an MFA controller can directly replace the
legacy PID controller without the need for "system"
redesign (plug-and play). Since there is always sensitivity
to the cost of change, this protects the partners' systems
and software investment. As an additional commitment to their
partner's success, CyboSoft will no longer actively sell their
own hardware platforms, thus avoiding competition with partner
sales channels.
"Our legacy is in the industrial process control market.
That's where we solved the most difficult-to-solve control
problems, developed a portfolio of MFA controller offerings,
and honed internal competencies such as embedding our software,"
says Dr. Cheng. "Our future is in bringing this technology
to market via partners who want to differentiate themselves
while offering greater value to their customers."
