Bristol Babcock and CyboSoft Announce MFA Embedded in ControlWave

Watertown, CT, October 21, 2003 - Bristol Babcock and CyboSoft today announced the availability of CyboSoft's Model Free Adaptive (MFA) control technology in Bristol Babcock's ControlWave hybrid controller. A proven technology, MFA has been deployed in mission-critical, production environments. It is now available to new ControlWave customers and can be added to existing ControlWave systems.

Jack Kelly, President of Bristol Babcock, said, "MFA is the most advanced process control functionality yet implemented in ControlWave. We're most excited about MFA due to its considerable value potential for our customers."

MFA is a breakthrough technology for process control and provides adaptive, robust control for simple and complex systems. MFA controllers do not require process models that are difficult to develop and maintain. Once installed, no controller tuning is required. MFA users have achieved a significant ROI due to improved product quality, higher efficiency, and reduced energy use.

According to CyboSoft Chairman, Dr. George Cheng, inventor of MFA, "Bristol Babcock's position in the worldwide energy, water & wastewater and utilities industries makes them an excellent partner for CyboSoft. ControlWave is the ideal high performance platform to bring the benefits of MFA to applications ranging from control of compressor units to automation of an entire pipeline."

ControlWave combines the best technologies provided by PLC, RTU and DCS architectures into a Hybrid system well suited to most all measurement and control applications. The ControlWave Designer programming software supports all five IEC 61131-3 programming languages, where six embedded MFA controllers ranging from Nonlinear MFA to MFA pH controllers can be selected as function blocks. Now, when facing tough control problems, a ControlWave user can simply select the appropriate MFA, replace the PID, configure and launch the controller, and reap the benefits. No manual tuning and maintenance are required.

Tom Fiske, Senior Market Analyst for Advanced Control & Optimization, ARC Advisory Group, commented that, "Users are looking for solutions that are quick and easy to implement and use, yet powerful enough to control difficult applications. Bristol Babcock is clearly addressing the needs of its customers by incorporating MFA technology to enhance the functionality of ControlWave."
